A BREIF HISTORY OF MOUNTAIN ASSOCIATES INVOLVEMENT IN HOT AIR BALLOONING
It all started one night about 40 years ago at "The Shed, Restaurant and Brewery" when the former owner of Mountain Associates, Tim Davis, started to reminisce to a group of local friends about flying a hot air balloon. After a few beers the group, including Stu Baraw and his brother Chuck, owners of the Stoweflake Mountain Resort and Spa, decided to form a partnership and buy a hot air balloon, calling it the "Spirit of Stowe". Tim agreed to teach all the partners to fly but only 2 in the group ever got their license, Stu and Chuck.
The use of the balloon in the Mountain Associates logo dates back to the time when Tim Davis was the owner
so when Stu purchased the business in the early 80’s it was only logical to continue to use the balloon in our
advertising
Eventually, Stu and Chuck decided they would purchase their own balloon and changed the name to "The Spirit of Stoweflake". Stu and Chuck’s passion and the Baraw family’s interest in ballooning has continued to grow throughout the years, becoming an amenity that Mountain Associates Realtors and Stoweflake Resort and Spa can now offer to their clients and customers. 1986 saw the first Stoweflake Hot Air Balloon Festival.
